The AILA ACT Group would like to invite you to a Sponsor and Industry Evening on Monday 4th July.
This is
the opportunity for AILA Members to gather for drinks and to acknowledge
and thank our supporters, sponsors and industry partners.
As part
of the evening we have asked the ACT Planning and Land Authority Chief
Planning Executive, Neil Savery, to speak briefly about the importance
of a holistic approach in the creation of more meaningful, enjoyable,
equitable and sustainable environments.
We look
forward to AILA members and our sponsors being able to meet informally
and discuss programs for the future.

OPEN GARDEN SCHEME PRESENTS
“GLOBAL
GARDENING”, a winter lecture series in association with the
Friends of the National Museum JUNE 15: Competition juror Professor
Peter Kanowski on Canberra’s international arboretum: the site,
it’s history, the fires and the competition entrants and winners.
JULY
27: Plantsman, author and gardening great Peter Valder
on our debt to Oriental plants and plant-hunters
AUGUST
24: Author and herbalist Penny Woodward on community gardens
and multicultural food growing in an Australian context.
Take
an armchair trip around the world of gardening and use the winter
chill to build a store of inspiration for spring. Lectures are $15
each or $30 for the series. Light refreshments are included.

STANDING
COMMITTEE ON PLANNING AND ENVIRONMENT
The Standing
Committee on Planning and Environment has called for submissions
as part of an enquiry into urban vegetation and wildlife corridors
and the integration of biodiversity conservation in land use planning
in the ACT.
The
Committee is interested in the following issues, The availability
and adequacy of information (including regional and sub-regional
land use maps and information about publicly and privately
funded environmental works) for identifying and assessing wildlife
corridors
and developing land use policy. Policies and programs for promoting
urban wildlife habitat in the ACT.
Transboundary
issues with local councils and the NSW Government concerning land
use planning
and
biodiversity considerations. The interrelationship of legislation
applicable in the ACT (including heritage, tree protection,
biodiversity and nature conservation legislation).
Domestic
pet policy in suburbs adjacent to protected areas and at the urban
fringe. Any other issues of relevance.
Submissions
are required to be lodged prior to 29 July 2005.

CONSERVATION
MANAGEMENT PLANS
The National
Capital Authority (NCA) is seeking Expressions of Interest
from suitably qualified and experienced multi disciplinary organisations
or consortia to prepare Conservation Management Plans for Lake
Burley Griffin and the Parliament House Vista, Canberra.
