Alternative Careers

The versatile skills required to be a landscape architect lend themselves to many other careers as well. This is great to keep in mind as it means you’re not locked into one profession and will have the freedom to explore different ways of using your talents should you wish to or should your personal circumstances require it. Studying landscape architecture will teach you strong skills in design, spatial awareness, environmental management, botany, people skills and business management. You might consider career options in academia, consulting, the public sector, research, product design, project management, sales, tourism planning, as a developer… the list goes on and is likely to grow and change alongside changes in technology and the environmental condition of the planet. AILA acknowledges the diversity of the profession through our awards program by recognising not just projects but also having specialty categories for areas like Research, Policy and Communication.
