Directors Message - 31 August 2020

Chris Tidswell, AILA National Director & Company Secretary

Dear AILA Members,

We all have a special affection for Victoria and feel for those affected by the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

Our hearts go out to all those currently battling the circumstances and those who have tragically lost their loved ones.

We can only imagine how unbelievably hard it must be for you all, having had such momentum in combating the virus, to now find yourselves in this second wave with all its heartbreaking consequences. Quality public open space has never been so important!

To all of you, on behalf of the AILA, we want to pass on our best wishes, and we know that Victoria will emerge stronger than ever.

Below are a couple of updates from AILA:

AILA Submission on Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act) Review
The EPBC Act is Australia's central piece of national environmental law. The EPBC Act requires a review every 10 years to examine the operation of the EPBC Act, and the extent to which its objectives have been achieved. The Minister for the Environment, the Hon Sussan Ley MP, has appointed Professor Graeme Samuel AC as the Independent Reviewer.

The AILA National Advocacy Committee have been working tirelessly towards a submission. We are looking to submit a response that re-iterates all things that are important to Landscape Architects in Australia. Please do not hesitate to get in contact if you would like to contribute.

Land E-Scape
Only 6 or so weeks until Land E-Scape. As you know it will be a four-day virtual event on the lead up to the National Awards (15th of October) and Annual General Meeting (15th of October).

The Land-e-Scape Creative Committee have been working very hard to create a virtual program of events. Product talks from corporate partners, virtual online project tours, panel discussions, presentations and CPD sessions.

2020 Registrations Rounds OPEN
Become a Registered Landscape Architect!
As a reminder - we encourage all eligible candidates to start your AILA registration process, please do not hesitate to apply by Monday 31 August 2020.

We look forward to the month of September and lead up to the Land-e-Scape Virtual Event.

Warm Regards,
Chris Tidswell, AILA National Director and Company Secretary
