Directors Message - 27 April 2021

Jasmine Ong, AILA National Director

State Chapter executive elections are open May through to July 2021. Join us at our May monthly Member Connect series as we focus on AILA Chapter Executive Nominations. Learn about how you can get involved, the difference you can make, and the professional development opportunities that being part of an AILA Chapter Executive can bring.

Materials and Embodied Carbon Leaders Alliance (MECLA): AILA is proud to be a founding partner of WWF-Australia’s collaborative initiative MECLA! Together we are imagining the greening of the construction and building industry by promoting the use of green steel, concrete, aluminium, as well as clever bricks and other innovative materials to advance a Circular Economy. This is a collaborative effort to help make the materials used in this industry meet Net Zero carbon targets in line with the Paris Agreement.

The Lived Experience: Join AILA NSW online for this open discussion to promote a culture of conversation and care in our profession. AILA NSW is inviting practices, professionals and Landscape Architects from all over to attend, listen and contribute to this important discussion. AILA NSW is privileged to welcome Monica Das, Beyond Blue speaker and co-founder of Haathi in the Room, an initiative that works to raise awareness of and destigmatise the topic of mental health in South Asian communities.

AILA Awards: entries for the state and national AILA awards are now closed. The entries for State Chapters will be revealed in May, with winners announced in June and July. This will be followed by the National award entries revealed on 15 July and winners announced in mid-October 2021.

Parents in Landscape Architecture Network (PLAN): would you like to be more involved with PLAN and help us connect to our members? We are currently looking for a new member of our Core planning team and Ambassadors. Core team members help monthly with the running of the group. Ambassadors help spread the word about PLAN within the industry and help the core group. Message us through the Facebook group Parents in Landscape Architecture Network - PLAN to learn more.

Take care, and enjoy the autumnal reds.

Jasmine Ong,
AILA National Director
