An overview of the AILA's policy on its endorsed national magazine

>> full publications strategy

The content of AILA National magazine is mainly focussed on the issues of landscape architecture.

The primary target of the publication is landscape architecture while a secondary consideration is also given to engaging allied professionals and the general public.

The national magazine aims to portray a clear and inspiring vision of the role and value of landscape architects.

The magazine should promote discussion about landscape architecture as well publish articles that provide informed, insightful and persuasive comments on project descriptions.

A key objective is to encourage a high level of project analysis by contributors, rather than straight forward reporting.

The magazine represents the diverse interests of the many disciplines within landscape architecture.

The magazine presents news and opinions and encourages debate on issues of the built environment with particular emphasis on the professional issues involved in landscape architecture.

The journal provides one of the major links for the membership to keep abreast of relevant issues and debates.

The magazine functions as the magazine of a professional institute while being owned by an outside publisher.

The magazine avoids competing with the numerous well-presented and frequently published architecture, garden and horticulture-related publications.

The magazine Australia aims:

  • To be a professional publication written by and for landscape architect professionals and those in related disciplines.
  • To provide a key forum for the professions involved in the built environment.
  • To allow for the expression of a wide range of views by members on topics of concern to the profession.
  • To raise issues concerning the profession at local, state, national and international level.
  • To maintain a high standard of editorial content and design.
  • To keep readers aware of new developments, products and services through editorial content and quality advertising.

Editorial Framework

Each edition is generally devoted to having a range of writers addressing a selection of topics of interest to the profession.

Thematic issues may be developed from time to time.

For the most part these themes would comprise several key articles with the other content being focused on other relevant topics and reports.

The editor reserves the right to edit, abridge, alter or reject any material.

Views expressed by named contributors are not necessarily those of the publisher, the AILA or the editor.

Each issue seeks to present a variety of writers and views, and for this reason some items may be held over or not included.

The magazine is prepared by the Editor on the basis of advice and ideas received from the AILA's editorial advisory panel with respect to themes, editorial copy, articles, authors and other contributors for each edition.

The Editor provides timely advice to contributors about decisions taken on material submitted – for example, if the material is to be accepted, edited, abridged, altered, published in whole, or rejected.

The magazine does not offer space for ‘advertorial’ text. In other words, an advertiser should have no expectation that editorial content will also be provided.

From 2006, Landscape Architecture Australia is the official national quarterly journal of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects. The magazine is published by Architecture Media.
