Commendation Award

PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE URBAN LANDSCAPES - A COLLABORATION 1994-2001

Landscape Architect:
Jane Shepherd & Alistair Phillips

Jury Comments
Jane Shepherd of RMIT has worked tirelessly in collaboration with Alistair Phillips of Moreland City Council, over a period of 7 years to investigate and promote the use of indigenous plant materials in a range of urban settings throughout the Moreland municipality.

Within an appreciation of similar movements overseas, she has placed herself within the context of the long struggle for garden use of Australian plants, and has vigorously promoted her ideas amongst her students and more widely throughout the community.

Best known of her projects is Moreland Parkland where the theoretical ideas of plant use and management have been very effectively trialled by Jane, Alistair, Moreland Council and others in the community.

The Commendation is awarded particularly in response to the consistent and extensive body of work.
