Landscape Architects in Public Practice Roundtable

Come and share your ideas at our first Public Practice Roundtable for 2024! This networking ideas session is hosted by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects – SA Chapter (AILA SA) and is open to all AILA SA members and also non-members in Local Government and State Government.
Landscape Architects have always played an important role in local government, but as priorities change, these roles in Public Practice may take on a different form and may have a very different focus. Landscape Architects may find themselves in the realms of Project Management, City Shaping and Activation, Public Art liaison, Grants applications, Policy writing and strategy implementation, while direct access to on-the-ground maintenance and horticulture teams, and relationships with asset managers, can shift the focus from design prowess and onto business plans and budget cycles.
Over the last 12 months AILA SA has started to engage and profile LAs in Public Practice including a panel discussion at our Annual Chapter meeting in 2023 and a breakfast event with LAs in Public Practice to discuss ways to support LAs in these important roles.
This session will be Chaired by Carina Green – AILA SA Vice President and will include a welcome and introduction from our hosts at the Office for Design and Architecture SA (ODASA).
At this roundtable we hope to continue discussions about knowledge sharing, practice support and networking opportunities for LAs in Public Practice. City of Adelaide and City of Marion will also share their recent experiences in knowledge sharing.
Attendees will break into groups to brainstorm ideas for how we can foster knowledge sharing, and broaden our skills sets so we can bridge the gap between Public and Private practice and how can AILA help facilitate this knowledge sharing.
