AILA ACT GROUP RECEIVES A GRANT FROM ACT ENVIRONMENT

The ACT AILA group has once again been successful in receiving an ACT Enviroment grant.  This is the group's fourth grant, following the success of The Sustainable Landscape Materials brochure, seminars and garden tours focussing on sustainable gardens and the Sustainable Canberra Garden website.

Edwina Richardson has been instrumental in devising and implementing these projects under the watchful eye of the Executive Director of AILA, Paul Costigan.  As the Project Officer of the grant, Richardson explains the purpose of the project:

The aim of the project is to create a web based source of case studies focused on Sustainable Community Projects, such as city farms, gardens addressing climate change, indigenous food gardens, ecocities, revegetation of open spaces and nature parks, city forestry, greening rooftops and walls, water harvesting, conversion of brownfields sites, waste reduction and community art projects. The project will demonstrate how the principles established in the case studies can be applied to Canberra.  Special attention will be paid to projects that will enable the Canberra community to adapt and mitigate climate change.

Watch out for updates on the development of the Vibrant Sustainable Communities site!
