INFRASTRUCTURE
FAIRFIELD RIPARIAN MAINTENANCE STRATEGIC PLANS

Strategic plan to assess the maintenance requirements of four flagship water sensitive urban design (WSUD) projects within Sydney’s Fairfield Local Government Area.
Landscape Principles in Practice:
- Value Our Landscape: Site analysis reveals a range of disparate maintenance strategies across parks and identifies existing landscape components which can support an integrated management solution to enhance economic and environmental functionality.
- Protect – Enhance – Regenerate: Landscape restoration principles which capitalize on the robustness of existing remnant vegetation communities are applied to reduce maintenance and increase social and environmental benefits. These include integrating methods of landscape intervention across a range of areas over time to achieve more cost-effective, sustainable outcomes.
- Design with Respect: Design respects existing ecosystem structure in devising management techniques which reflect natural processes over time.
- Design for the Future: Design employs innovative approaches and techniques to inform future development of adaptive responses to water management issues in the built environment.
- Embrace Responsive Design: Regular performance monitoring is an integral component of the strategy, as part of a biodiverse ecosystems-approach to long term landscape maintenance of parkland assets.
