RESIDENTIAL

STRADBROKE DOMAIN

Redevelopment of a subtropical island holiday resort, integrating new buildings within an existing coastal bush landscape.

Landscape Principles in Practice:

  • Value Our Landscape:  Design responds to physical, social and cultural characteristics of the local landscape, using environmentally respectful processes and management strategies to enhance the economic and environmental functionality of the site.
  • Protect – Enhance – Regenerate:  Design & management ethic based on revealing and enhancing existing landscape values to support new market needs for ‘luxury destination’ character without compromising existing ecosystem integrity.
  • Design with Respect: Innovative use of all-indigenous planting in a ‘resort’ context, including techniques for retention of existing mature trees within close proximity to new buildings during construction phase.  Sustainability principles employed in materials selection and maintenance, stormwater design and revegetation strategies.
  • Design for the Future:  Design proposes new ways of approaching high-intervention landscapes such as holiday resorts to enhance environmental resilience.
  • Embrace Responsive Design:  Collaborative approaches to landscape design and management enhance potential for innovation and creativity.
