Dr Matthew Beaty CSIRO

Research Scientist, CSIRO Sustainable Ecosystems and, CSIRO Climate Adaptation Flagship

Matthew is a geographer with broad interests in understanding relationships between people and the environment in urban areas. He and his research group use spatial analytical approaches coupled with field-based studies, social surveys and interviews to understand complex dimensions of urban sustainability at local, neighbourhood, and city scales. This includes research on urban land cover dynamics and ecosystem services, the built environment and human health, and adaptation options for cities in the face of climate change. His work is international in scope, including projects in Australia, the United States, and Southeast Asia.

Alan is principal of Chenoweth EPLA, a Certified Environmental Practitioner and Registered Landscape Architect, with over 30 years experience in plant sciences, landscape design, conservation and land development, resource assessment and management, community consultation, environmental impacts, visual assessment, park and recreation planning, and generally in the integration of ecological studies with town planning
