Australian Landscape Charter: Identifying the
Issues
The Australian Landscape Charter is to
provide a set of broad national environmental guidelines
with the emphasis on our landscape and AILA’s environmental
priorities.
The Landscape Charter signals the commitment
by the profession to the promotion of stewardship of Australia’s
landscapes, both urban and other built environments and
the natural and cultural landscapes in the context of the
total landscape.
The mini-conference will start with a
very Melbourne welcome; followed by invited presentations
on selected perspectives of current environmental debates
and related issues.
The keynote presenter, Joseph E. Brown,
FSALA, President and CEO, EDAW, will set the scene for
the day’s presentations
and discussions.
Other presentations to follow:
Attitudes to landscape (built and
natural): Peter
Timms:
The Quarter Acre Block (Cultural Perspective)
Allen Kearns (CSIRO Sustainable Ecosystems perspective)
The politic of the landscape and
the environment (delivering solutions):
Jennifer Neales (Director Vivo Design, Qld)
environmental solutions in North
Qld
Brad Coombs, Isthmus Group (NZ Charter and
NZ solutions)
The day will finish with panel discussions
on the identified issues and how these could be addressed
in the charter.
The AILA Landscape Charter is to be launched
in early 2007.
