Guidelines for Papers

Conference Speakers are offered discounts on the conference fees, but must cover all other costs. (sorry, the number of feebies is very very limted!)

The AILA reserves the right to reject any papers and presentations at any stage of the pre-conference stages and conference sessions.  Presenters and submitters of papers must be mindful that agreed deadlines must be met.

The AILA also reserves the right to seek other presenters and papers beyond the Call for Papers.

AILA Refereed Papers - Guidelines

Paper format
Papers should be 3,000 – 5,000 words and be formatted according to these guidelines

Paper submission
Papers should be submitted electronically (as MS Word) to admin@aila.org.au by COB Monday 2 March 2009. This document to contain embedded images and graphics.

Copies of all hi-res graphics and images should be sent by disc to the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, GPO BOX 1646, Canberra ACT 2601, Australia to arrive later the same week.

Refereeing process

Submitted papers to be forwarded to referees for blind refereeing. Referees review papers against criteria for the conference theme. They will recommend whether or not the paper is be accepted for inclusion in the refereed publication.

Full papers submitted for double blind review are expected to meet these criteria:

  • Relevance to target audience: Does the paper relate well to the conference target audience?
  • Importance/applicability: How important is this topic and how applicable is the research to the professional audience?
  • Quality of the research: Does the paper take into account current research and thinking on the theme?
  • Readability: Is the paper clearly written, concise and organised?

Timeline

Submit paper by 2nd March 2009
Notification of acceptance for publication by 21st March
Tuesday 31 March – papers finalised
Publication date to be confirmed

Guidelines for Paper Format

Each paper should have Part A (on a separate sheet), and Part B

PART A - The cover sheet should include

Paper title  - Times New Roman, 14pt, bold, centred, sentence case
Place two lines after the paper title
Your name, department and institution (Times New Roman 12 pt, sentence case, centred with principal author listed first)
Contact details for principal author (postal address, telephone, email address)
Author biography(s) 75 words maximum.

PART B - the paper should include (starting on a separate sheet)
Paper title
An abstract of 250 words (repeated)
Papers must between 3,000 and 5,000 words, including all references. The maximum limit will be enforced. Papers may be rejected if limits are ignored.
Note: Author name(s) should not appear on Part B
