Mandy Rounsefell

With over fifteen years work experience locally and overseas, Mandy has expertise in Landscape Masterplanning, Visual Assessment, Urban Design and Landscape Architecture. Mandy leads and collaborates on projects from the initial brief and broad scale planning, through to detailed design, documentation and administration.

Mandy’s experience includes working on both public and private projects from streetscape, open space planning and urban design to project managing large commercial landscape projects for the private sector such as parklands, resorts and residential estates, apartments, business and office parks.

Mandy has also worked extensively within sensitive environments including coastal areas, riverine corridors and wetlands, National Parks and World Heritage areas within New Zealand, South Africa, China and Australia. With a strong design and communication focus, Mandy strives to achieve the best project outcomes for the client, community and the environment alike.


PROJECT EXPERIENCE

Strategic Policy

Dominion Road 2016 Project - Urban Design Framework Report - Dominion Road is Auckland’s longest straight road and has diverse architecture, old buildings and new interesting shops, cafes, and cultures.

Mandy co-wrote the comprehensive Framework Report, which provided recommendations to Council for future development and streetscape improvements along the road, addressing pedestrian and traffic safety issues; connectivity through community facilities; design for quality of pavements, lighting, seating and open space and pedestrian connections. The project involved extensive consultation with the local community, the Eden Albert and Mt Roskill Community Boards, Auckland City Council Urban Design Advisory Panel, as well as other advice and transport agencies.


Public Places

Riverside Park, Port of Brisbane Corporation, Hamilton, Brisbane

Conics won a design competition for a 2.5 hectare public park on the Brisbane River at Hamilton.

The Riverside Park is included in the first stage of the Northshore Hamilton urban renewal development. The recently completed park features 200 metres of Brisbane River frontage and provides for a variety of experiences and incorporates a riverfront cafe, public performance space, passive and active recreation areas as well as picnic and children’s play areas.


Ipswich Riverheart Project, Ipswich – Ipswich City Council

“A partnership between Ipswich City Council, Department of Local Government Planning, Sport and Recreation and Local CBD land holders and traders to revitalise the centre of Ipswich and reconnect it back to the Bremer River”.

Joint design Project Manager/Landscape Architect and lead consultant during concept design phase for the award winning redevelopment for d’Arcy Doyle Place, Ipswich City mall and Bremer Riverfront to produce concept designs, leading and working in coordination with project team including Council representatives, art curator, architect, engineers, QS, irrigation consultants.


Karangahape Road, Auckland, New Zealand

Auckland City Council, Community Planning -Multi block streetscape design and documentation for major inner city historic precinct including theming and design co-ordination for paving, street furniture, street tree planting, liaison with community and business organisations. (Boffa Miskell)


Thuringowa, Peggy Banfield Park - Townsville City Council

Conics were engaged to provide recreation masterplan concepts for this significant regional open space near Bushland Beach near Townsville. The design required locating numerous facilities on the site including playing fields, community centre, playgrounds, skate park, BMX track and parking.


Various World Heritage and National Parks Projects – Australia - Department of Environment and Heritage and EPA

Queensland parks and Wildlife Service - Since 1995 Mandy has worked on a variety of master planning and visual assessment projects for the Queensland State Government.

Project experience includes a visual assessment of the entire 7000km length of the Queensland coast for DEH planning purposes, as well as landscape master planning visitor facilities for the EPA at Lake McKenzie on Fraser Island, Noosa National Park, Blue Lake National Parks and on Moreton Island. Yancheng Wetlands, China - State Environmental Protection Administration Government of Yancheng

Part of international collaborative team to devise tourism strategy and branding, traversing 3 provinces on the Yellow Sea coast north of Shanghai, including the Yancheng Biosphere Reserve and Ramsar listed coastal marshes, incorporating transportation networks and master planning for tourism corridors, village & town centres and visitor facilities with the endangered Red Crowned Crane and Dafeng Milu Deer Conservation Reserves. New Communities

Hundred Hills Estate, Stockland


Conics are currently working with Stockland on this 316 lot residential estate at Murwillumbah, Northern New South Wales. Our scope includes provision of a landscape masterplan report/vision document for the whole site and landscape project management from design through to construction for all streetscapes, parklands and integration of landscape character into the adjacent existing residential areas.



Bluewater, Trinity Park, Cairns, Multiplex Developments

Conics are responsible for the open space masterplanning and detailed design and documentation for this integrated residential community north of Cairns.

The design has focused on the preservation of existing rainforest areas and the development of an integrated open space system centred around the Moores Gully Riparian corridor. Works include the development of rehabilitated wetlands, passive and active recreational areas, bicycle tails and extensive community playgrounds and walking trails.



Fairfield Waters, Fairfield Waters Lake 3 -Fairfield Land Pty Ltd

Conics has provided full landscape architectural services for the lakeside parkland design surrounding Lake 3 at Fairfield Waters, Townsville.

We worked closely with the hydraulic and civil engineers to provide a variety of community recreation experiences including key recreation areas, grassy peninsula and kick about areas with picnic nodes located at various strategic locations around the lake.

As part of a saltwater drainage system, flood attenuation was a key driver in the landscape design, requiring careful consideration of native plant species and edge treatment due to fluctuation of lake levels.



Ocean Edge, Palm Cove, Indigo Group and Macquarie Bank JV

Project Landscape Architect instrumental from conceptual stages through to design development for the 36ha Oceans Edge development at Palm Cove.

The current Novotel Palm Cove resort and 18 hole golf course is being redeveloped into a new 5 star residential resort community. Sensitive design work required to maintain and enhance the existing natural site character to incorporate waterways, extensive parklands, pathways and rainforest boardwalks to provide walkable community access through this key coast site. Education

Aspire PPP Schools, Brisbane, QLD

Conics are currently undertaking landscape masterplanning and design through to construction for the Aspire Schools team for seven new schools throughout South East Queensland. The schools are due to open in 2010 and 2011.



Southern Cross University, Lismore, NSW - Campus Living Villages

Conics undertook landscape masterplanning and design for future university accommodation for the Coffs Harbour and Lismore campuses.



University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand

Redesign around the university’s library and lecture theatre which included hard and soft landscapes for a public plaza, boulevards and lawn areas. Mandy coordinated the award winning redesign as project manager and designer.
