Presentation:
Landscape is a Transformative Way of Knowing
Tim Waterman lectures in landscape architecture, landscape urbanism and urban design, working with students in both the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. He is the author of Fundamentals of Landscape Architecture and, with Ed Wall, Basics Landscape Architecture: Urban Design, both out in 2009.
Tim's research interests are wide-ranging. He is interested in how people form imaginative understandings of urban cultural landscapes, based in Certeauian models of 'pedestrian rhetoric'. This forms the basis for other explorations of power and democracy and their shaping of public space and public life; taste, etiquette, belief and ritual; and foodways in community and civic life and cultural landscape.
Further, the complex network of processes and systems in lived landscape and landscape design has led Tim to interrogate traditional modes of landscape representation in search of further models.
