AILA and professional education
Landscape architects internationally
begin their professional career by gaining
a university qualification from a professionally recognised and accredited program.
In Australia, there are Bachelors
and Masters of Landscape Architecture
programs that are accredited and
award a recognised qualification for entry into the profession of landscape
architecture.
The AILA has in
place further requirements for graduates to complete in order
to gain professional recognition ( see
the AILA membership pages ) involving at least two years of
recognised employment followed by a two stage professional assessment.
Presently seven
Australian universities offer professionally accredited programs.
All these accredited
programs offer courses in technical subjects, such as design, site
engineering, environment, plant materials and construction methods,
as well as courses in the arts, sciences and humanities.
While some universities may also
offer similar programs to those accredited, it must be emphasised
that the AILA does not recognise students from these alternate programs.
AILA National Council is assisted by the National Accreditation Committee:
Peter Haack,
Nell Rickard and Hilary Hamnett.
