AILA Membership Information

Affiliate Membership

application forms and information

Affiliate membership is available to persons:

  • Qualified in related professions (eg architecture, engineering, environmental science, planning, horticulture, etc) but not practising or involved in a company practising any form of landscape design or landscape architecture.

  • Involved in activities associated with landscape architecture (eg through education, research, community groups, etc).

  • In associated trades and industries (eg landscape materials manufacturers/suppliers, nurseries, landscape contractors, etc).

The Affiliate Membership is subject to a case by case decision. This class of membership is granted where there is no possible confusion whereby members of the public or agencies may confuse the Affiliate Membership with Full Professional Membership – being a Registered Member.

The conditions of membership are that:

  • Affiliates agree to abide by the AILA constitution (available on the web site).
  • Affiliates may participate in AILA meetings and activities but do not have voting rights nor are they able to be nominated for executive positions.
  • Affiliates may identify as ‘Affiliate Member AILA’ only in direct connection with AILA matters, activities and publications, eg when writing articles for AILA journals and newsletters or as part of communications within the Institute.
  • Affiliates must not in any way imply registered membership of the AILA or to imply eligibility to practice landscape architecture contrary to applicable state laws.
  • Affiliates may NOT use any version of an AILA acronym after their name nor use the Affiliate membership within their own marketing, such as on letterheads, business cards or brochures.
  • Affiliates will be listed as Non-Corporate members within AILA’s directories.
  • The Affiliate category is not available to persons who are eligible to apply for Graduate, Student or Registered membership of AILA.

Fees

The Affiliate Fees:  $250 per annum.

The procedure for application and evaluation is:

  • The applicant completes the application form and arranges for two corporate members to sign as sponsors (proposer and seconder).
  • The application form, any supporting documents, and the application fee are sent direct to the National Office.
  • The application is considered by the National Council. The Council may call for additional advice from other sources such as a State Group.
  • The applicant is notified of the decision.

If an application is rejected, Council reserves the right not to explain the reasons for the rejection. Any appeal is subject to normal processes of appeal.

Corporate Sponsor
If an individual or organisation wishes to demonstrate a higher level of support than is offered through the Affiliate Membership category, then AILA would encourage you to approach the National Office about becoming a Sponsor.

Sponsors have available to them all the benefits of Affiliate Membership plus may use the term “Australian Institute of Landscape Architects Sponsor” in their advertising and publicity materials.

Sponsors receive a level of recognition within AILA commensurate to the level of sponsorship. Please contact the National Office for details on the various grades of Sponsorship.

Benefits of being an AFFILIATE Member of AILA
