The NSW AILA Awards 2008 program will be kicking off soon with the finalisation of juries, requests for awards submissions, judging, and then concluding with the awards presentation as part of our end of year/Christmas celebration on 4 December at Cockatoo Island.
Awards submissions are due by the 29 September 2008, to coincide with Sydney Architecture Festival. It is proposed that the AILA NSW Design Award submissions will be displayed as part of this event.
Why have awards?
The AILA Landscape Architecture Project Awards promote and advance the profession of landscape architecture by:
Fostering public awareness and recognition of the diversity and quality of work undertaken by Landscape Architects.
Encouraging best practice by members in all aspects of the landscape profession.
Providing opportunity for local, regional, national and global recognition of Australian Landscape Architecture.
How are the awards assessed?
The Awards process is constantly evolving, being refined and honed each event to improve the operational efficiency of the judging process and maximising the time available to assess each entry. We also recognise that the juries' composition has a significant bearing on the direction/ success of the Awards and we are always looking to establish juries of substance and diversity.
The juries will be finalised by the 22nd August, and we welcome submissions from individuals who would be interested in participating in any of the following categories:
* Design (includes Residential Landscape Design)
* Planning
* Land Management
* Research and Communication
These four categories meet the AILA National Awards category guidelines.
When is the judging?
The program for judging is the 16th to the 18th of October 2008.
This year, in addition to the project awards, there will also be:
The NSW Planning Minister's Sydney Greenspace Award.
The President's Award for projects outside of Metropolitan Sydney.
Landscape Architecture Student and Graduate Awards.
Can I enter an award and also be on the jury?.
You may only enter an award if it is in a different category from the one you are a jury member of. The general Awards information is available on the AILA website including the past years' successes and publications.
Can I enter in more than one category?
Projects may not be entered into more than one category
Can I skip the State Awards and go straight to National?
Project submissions to the next National AILA Awards will only be accepted on projects that have been submitted to a previous state award.
Can I sponsor?
We are always looking for sponsors to assist in delivering the Awards so please try to support AILA in this endeavour as well.
More specifics on submission fees, timing and format will be communicated in the coming newsletters or direct emails.
So please get your submissions ready for end September as I am sure that as last time, the Awards will demonstrate collectively a huge variety and depth of work of which we can all be proud.
The Submission Date for ALL entries has been changed to MONDAY 29 SEPTEMBER.
