The
Australian Institute of Landscape Architects in association with
the Year of the Build Environment presents Future Gardens – a
thought provoking look at sustainable gardens for the future.
The free exhibition was open to the public from Oct 29 through to Nov 7th
in the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney.
Gardens have been described as sites of negotiation between culture and
nature. A place where humans can control and shape their environment to
make places of beauty. But our idea of beauty is inextricably linked to
our culture. And with culture and nature both changing at a frightening
pace, we should ask ourselves:
How will we design our gardens in the future?
In a unique and inspiring exhibition to help celebrate the Year of the
Built Environment, landscape architects of today provide us a glimpse
into the gardens of tomorrow. Through eight innovative, living installations
in the Royal Botanic Gardens, Future Gardens explores the critical themes
of environmental sustainability, suggesting ways that we might more successfully
co-exist with nature.
