Provenance Issues, Getting it right.
From small things big things

Wednesday 27 August  9.30am-1.30pm

Across NSW at all levels of government the need for Landscape Architects to use specified provenance grown and selected seed stock has become a major requirement on projects over the past seven years.

This is your chance to hear from three experts in the field who collect, grow and use provenance stock in NSW. This technical workshop will be an excellent introduction for Landscape Architects, Landscape Contractors, Horticulturalists, Students involved in the Landscape Industry and professions involved at the local Council level.

It will prove to be informative, engaging and a useful information exchange in an often poorly understood issue confronting the Landscape Industry.

Speakers :

Penny Atkinson from Florabank will discuss issues concerning seed-collection and about florabanks species navigator that can assist Landscape Architects to choose appropriate species for their projects.

Florabank is an initiative of the Australian Government, funded by the Natural Heritage Trust and delivered by Greening Australia and CSIRO is Australia's premier resource for native seed.

Florabank recognises and shares the best available knowledge from research and practice in native species seed management and supports a professional and informed seed sector, encouraging quality and choice for buyers of native Australian seed. Florabank also delivers training for seed professionals, and works to assist the native seed industry to grow and develop as a national peak body advocate.

Kate Malfroy SCNP is Director of Jamberoo Native Nursery and will provide an explanation of the services Jamberoo Native Nursery and Southern Bushland Repair offer, including provenance collection of seed material, production of plantstock through to revegetation project construction and maintenance.

Jamberoo Native Nursery is a specialist production nursery growing a range of Australian natives for the landscape, retail and revegetation markets.  The nursery has been acknowledged for two years running by the Nursery and Garden Industry of Australia as the Best Medium Production Nursery NSW 2007 and 2008 and was also the first in NSW to gain EcoHort accreditation.

Since joining Ingrid Mather's practice in 1991 he was worked extensively in the Mt Annan area and has seen it develop from a simple dairy farm to a thriving residential area.

James's recent work in Mt Annan has been focussed around the Mt Annan Wetlands - a 9 hectare riparian corridor, stormwater management zone and recreational area. provenance stock. James has a strong commitment to the balance and interconnectiveness of urban living and landscape rehabilitation. This is evident in the company’s work in and around Mt Annan and at other sites at Warriewood and Shellharbour.

JMDdesign was formed at the beginning of 2008 from an amalgamation of Mather & Associates Pty Ltd and Anton James Design. This brought together the considerable talents and experience of Anton James, Ingrid Mather  and James Delaney. JMDdesign has a strong commitment to achieving both site specific and environmentally responsible design solutions. It actively pursues the application of sustainable development principles in all their design projects.
