Landscape Architect: Cardno S.P.L.A.T.

Location: Brisbane Airport Landscape Masterplan

The Landscape Masterplan document was prepared by Cardno S.P.L.A.T. for the Brisbane Airport Corporation. The overall objective of the study was to generate landscape ideas for the airport to provide direction and continuity for future landscape projects with the aim to develop the appearance and identity of the airport and provide a stronger and more memorable visitor experience.

Through the analysis and consultation process a number of key issues were identified and were summarised under the following headings to provide a framework for development of objectives:

  • Character
  • Environment
  • Amenity
  • Access and mobility
  • Costs and maintenance

Due to the scale and complexity of the site, individual precincts were identified and the strategies to address each objective were handled on a precinct by precinct basis, however the treatment of the precincts ensures that airport wide strategies are enacted to ensure a consistent approach across the entire site.

The Landscape Masterplan provides a long term vision for precincts and strategies will be implemented over the staged release of land.  Areas such as No. 1 Airport Drive, International Terminal, Domestic Terminal and Airport Drive are seen as the priority landscape spaces that should be addressed over the following 1 to 2 years.  Other precincts and individual areas are noted as having lower priority and time-frame, but are still an integral part of the whole site.

It is envisaged that the Landscape Masterplan will provide the definitive parameters for the development of all future precincts and individual sites across Brisbane Airport for BAC and all consultant design teams.
