AILA Queensland comments on Brisbane's proposed North Bank Project
In March 2007, Darren Mew, AILA Qld President, invited AILA Qld members, landscape architect representatives and other colleagues to participate in the Qld State Government Call for responses to the Brisbane North Bank Proposal. AILA Qld considered the project of such scale and implication to be worthy of responses, both in areas of support and concern.
AILA Queensland suggested the following were key ares to comment on, in particular that any such major project needed to include a high level of environmental initiatives as well as address climate change issues:
-
ration of publicly accessible open space to developed area
-
extension of the project into the river
-
relationship to the freeway
-
resilience to environmental change (storm surge / rising sea levels)
- integration with Brisbane city
