The cultural planning expressed through this project is thorough, respectful and engaging. It expresses a deep understanding of effective planning processes and methodologies and applies these in creative and powerful ways that allowed the Kaurna community representatives involved to feel empowered and expressive in their explorations of the Moana story. It is clear from the comments of those involved that they were moved by the experience.
Importantly, the study team resisted the temptation to paint the values and stories that emerged through the process in European colours, allowing instead for the subtlety and diversity of the Kaurna messages to pervade the work.
Of particular note is the high quality graphic images that illustrate and illuminate the study. While the Jury felt that this submission could have been strengthened by a more developed approach to the translation of the cultural planning into the concept plan, Hilary Hamnett and Associates is to be congratulated on an exceptional high quality cultural planning project.
