Landscape Architect:  Wilson Landscape Architects

LOCATION: University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus

The Lakeside Walk at the St Lucia Campus of the University of Queensland connects the lower river plain level to the University academic buildings and facilities.

The design and documentation of this staged development of the western edge of the main lake on the St Lucia Campus, turned previously industrial type space into a landscape buffer.

The walk includes an elevated timber boardwalk through a bird breeding area, a curved bridge, timber battened shelters, seating, drinking, lighting and security facilities.  The layout provides a range of opportunities for viewing and interacting with the lake, and connects back to several buildings along the water’s edge.  The project took special care to design the facility to standards for access by people with disabilities as well as ensuring a robust finish with minimal maintenance.

The design meets UQ CPTED policies and incorporated emergency call points and security camera coverage of the area.
