The Future Garden is an individual garden commissioned by the Royal Botanic Gardens within the new Australian Garden complex at Cranbourne.

The brief called for a garden that examines the role of Australian plants in “our visions of the environment in the 21st century.” 

The Future Garden explores this theme by examining the history and future of the artificial manipulation of Australian plants using a variety of horticultural and scientific techniques including grafting, hybridisation and cultivars and more recently plant genomics (bioengineering).
