ANNOUNCING OUR 2008 STATE PARTNERS

After several months of evaluating, brainstorming, marketing and negotiating, it is with great pleasure that we announce our six State Partners for 2008-2010.  This Special Edition of QueenslandMark has been prepared to provide you with a formal introduction an update on the activities of our 2008 State Partners.

Eureka Landscapes and Street and Gardens Furniture Co. have again demonstrated their commitment to our profession through continuing their partnership with AILA (Qld).   We are also excited to announce that we have secured four new State Partners keen to build a professional partnership with our profession: Pacific Trees; Reclaim Industries; Urbanstone; and Water by Design.

Our State Partners provide a key role in contributing to the management and operation of AILA at a State Level.  These partnerships seek to ensure that there are benefits each way – to industry organisations through direct opportunities to participate and engage with us in researching, preparing and delivering; and to us through direct contact with industry professionals providing technical expertise and market direction.

A profile of each State Partner is presented in this issue to provide you with an overview and some background and contact information.  As you will have many opportunities to meet with our State Partner representatives at upcoming events, please introduce yourself and welcome our 2008 State Partners to AILA (Qld).

If you would like any further information please contact our State Manager (Lisa Johnston) via email qld@aila.org.au

Eureka Landscapes has a reputation built on achieving superior results and award winning solutions within the commercial landscaping sector.  Over the past 28 years, we have continually set high standards in service, workmanship and delivery of quality landscape projects within expected time frames.

Our strength lies in the ability to utilise the skills and expertise of our own highly trained staff. With an efficient team whom are experienced in all facets of landscaping – both hard and soft  which results in little reliance on other  sub-contractors.

This means that we have control of every project.... and ultimately the end result.

We believe that a successful project is the outcome of exceptional workmanship, organised management highly skilled employees and partnering with our client and their consultants, thus creating a landscape true to its design and delivering a result of the highest quality.

SGF recently completed provision of special elements of street furniture for Market Street in Brisbane City. Items included Light Poles, Tree Grates, Wheelie Bin Surrounds, and TWIG concrete seats. These were designed are by Alexander Lotersztain as part of BCCs Inhabit Public Art Programme, curated by Holly Arden.

The TWIG seats, also a feature at South Bank Institute of Technology, show the possibilities offered by creative use of concrete. Our design team is working with a number of Landscape Architects to develop other ideas that will feature this medium.

Also recently completed is feature seating for Pinch Point at Alexandra Headlands on the Sunshine Coast. The Design solution, developed by Surya Graf, includes CNC shaped timber allowing for the creation of a very fluid shape that suits and sits well with this coastal environment.

We are also developing new furniture elements built from folded aluminium, as part of a proposal for a large coastal foreshore redevelopment. These items will be colour anodised after fabrication. Some of these aluminium elements will also be used in combination with wharf timbers, which have been recycled from the existing site.

This way part of the existing built environment remains, and is able to be re used for the longer term benefit of this place.

The SGF studio continues to evolve, with our new Showroom Gallery successfully showcasing our first event ARTERY. The final addition to the studio is another 130 SqM of very handsome office space, for anyone who may wish to join us.

Water by Design works in partnership with government, researchers and industry to foster the uptake of best practice water sensitive urban design (WSUD) in South East Queensland.

The rapid pace of urban development in SEQ places significant pressures on the region's water resources, including waterways, coastal ecosystems and water supplies.  WSUD is an interdisciplinary practice which seeks to address these problems through combining the skills and knowledge of landscape architects, urban designers, environmental engineers and scientists and ecologists.

The Water by Design program has developed a suite of strategic, high priority capacity building projects, ranging from design guidelines and training courses to industry forums, policy reforms and incentive schemes.

Water by Design is hosted by the South East Queensland Healthy Waterways Partnership, and is funded by the Australian, State and local governments and is a key component of the Water Sensitive Urban Design Action Plan of the South East Queensland Healthy Waterways Strategy (SEQHWS) 2007 - 2012.
