The Awards Jury were extremely impressed by the high standard of projects entered this year and had some difficulty in deciding which projects received awards. The design excellence displayed in the various entries confirms the professional contribution being achieved in our profession.

Rocks Riverside Park
Client: Brisbane City Council - Natural Environment & Sustainability
The establishment of this regional park is a significant addition to the city’s infrastructure. The park provides a much valued asset to the resident and has a variety of active and passive areas that establish a strong message of sustainability. This public open space sets a direction for future development and creates a platform for more informed decision making and resolution of community needs and civic objectives.

Playground Design
Client: Brisbane City Council - Natural Environment & Sustainability
Well executed integration of innovative and exciting playground facilities and spaces into a variety of inner city parks. Site specific and creative design solutions provide play opportunities for everyone and take playground design to a superior level. The integration of Brisbane’s sub tropical climate has been achieved by the strong use of colour, water and landscape elements. The collaboration with artists and specialist consultants has resulted in establishing a palette of interesting and exciting playground facilities.

Inner Northern Busway - Section 5
Client: Queensland Transport and Clough Seymour Whyte
The careful placement of the landscape design sets a foundation for the long-term integration of the bus way infrastructure with minimal visual intrusion. The concept, although not revolutionary is creative in its adaptation to the context of site and surrounding infrastructure.

A playful response which creates both an outdoor room for the art school and provides a vibrant, imaginative and shaded courtyard with ample seating areas for the students.

University of Queensland Chancellors Place & Queensland Biosciences Precinct
Client: University of Queensland
This challenging project combines a strong entry statement for the University while adding transport and pedestrian movements. The result is an accessible and pleasing pedestrian space, which unifies the diverse architecture styles of the surrounding buildings. A well constructed design that resolves bus and pedestrian movements creating a strong entry statement of public open space. It provides a unification to the diverse architectural styles of the surrounding buildings.

Wuxi New Lake City
Client: Wuxi Li Lake District Planning & Construction
Wuxi is a highly resolved broad scale project. It demonstrates an excellent collaboration with the Wuxi Government and a thorough understanding of the site’s landscape and cultural past. This project is an excellent example of environmental restoration, which balances the integration of art, lighting, landmarks and structures resulting in a cohesive public open space.

Warwick Town Centre and Streetscape Strategy
Client: Warwick Shire Council
The streetscape has achieved a good balance of design while maintaining the retail and civic heart and character of a local heritage. The design has established a consistency by the use of avenue shade trees, widened footpaths and added significantly to the public space within the town centre.

Kelvin Grove Urban Village
The project has a remarkable history and offers some significant potential for directing future inner urban redevelopment. The role of the Landscape Architect has been an integral part in the creation of public spaces and establishing a strong streetscape that defines pedestrian and vehicular movement. The design foundations set a standard for ongoing development and success of highly urbanised Kelvin Grove Village.

A successful translocation of a natural ecosystem within a residential estate. Through creative thinking and use of translocation of flora and fauna by moving blocks of soil, vegetation and fauna to a new location, thus preserving the bio-diversity of the local ecosystem.

An excellent example of a collaborative design approach for the subdivision of a highly sensitive tropical coastal environment. The landscape design solution for this subdivision asserts a major contribution to maintaining the quality of
the existing environment while still allowing development to occur. The results demonstrate harmony between the built and natural environment.

The project exemplifies the significant benefit of site appreciation and the enhancement of natural assets. This subdivision, in a generally non-descript area, takes a residual water body and enhances it for the benefits of all residents and in doing so, creates additional value for the area and developer.

Wuxi - Swan Lake Masterplan
The project displays a strong example of the Landscape Architect’s professional ability to contribute to the Master Planning of large scale urban projects. The study produced comprehensive planning options, and provided the client with innovative Master Planning options. The understanding of the site and the clients vision were creatively expressed in the development of the preferred Master Plan.

North Lakes Town Centre - Landscape Design Manual
Client: Stockland North Lakes
Excellent communication of principles and guidelines for the controlled development of the North Lakes Town Centre. Production of the design guidelines provides the opportunity for development of the town centre by including the definition of soft and hard landscape elements. The vehicular and pedestrian network is clearly demonstrated in the design manual.
