Roaming around the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra

The National Portrait Gallery opened in December 2008 with all the emphasis on the collections and then some on the architecture and the design of the building. So here is another view.

One afternoon in early January 2009, I ambled around the outside of the building to explore how the landscape was being used and how the building had been positioned within the landscape of the parliamentary triangle. Given the major concerns that the world has in dealing with climate change, I stayed alert for signs of a different approach to how the landscape was being addressed in this 21st Century.

Given that the Portrait Gallery had been opened just a month or so and this was over Christmas, the landscape was very raw and in some case requiring attention. So I will let these pictures tell the story and then we will revisit in 12 months time to see the changes.
