The South Australian Group of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA SA) and HASSELL Ltd are the sponsors of the annual Rodney Owen Beames Memorial Award that recognises the commitment and interests of Rodney Beames, a landscape architect who promoted the practices of landscape architecture and, in particular, art in the landscape.
This Award is for excellence in Landscape Architecture and is demonstrated in the Final Project of landscape architecture students at the University of Adelaide. The Award applies to design and/or theory and is specifically directed towards the debate and practice of art in contemporary landscape architecture in Australia.
The prize includes:
- $1,100 (GST incl) consisting of $500 from AILA SA and $500 from HASSELL;
- student or graduate membership to AILA for one year, or next year's membership if the recipient is already a member;
- certificate from the President of AILA (SA)
Candidate Selection
The University of Adelaide Department of Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design will nominate a short list of up to three students to be considered for the Rodney Beames Award.
Judging
The judging process shall involve a verbal and visual presentation to the Award Panel at ArtsSA at a date in November to be notified, between 10 am and 1 pm. This will be a 15 minute presentation and 15 minute questions. The judging panel is composed of representations from AILA, HASSELL and Arts SA.
Presentations
Presentations should concisely address the judging criteria in a format that the candidate feels best expresses their response to those criteria.
