President's Message
Graeme Hopkins

The Awards Committee is busily putting the final touches to the Awards night. I would urge all members who have not yet purchased tickets to do so, as there is a limited number of seats. The Awards night is Saturday 18 October at Rubikon, Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Hindmarsh. Contact Kylie Evans at the national office for bookings on ailaanat@aila.org.au

The Executive is proposing a series of CPD talks/seminars on a monthly basis for 2004. We would like your suggestions for topics. Proposed topics so far include: award winning projects, role of the expert witness in significant tree issues, contracts available for use, role of the BioCITY Centre for Urban Habitats.
In September a seminar is proposed for the nationally coordinated Year of the Built Environment, with the topic being a major Adelaide urban issue. Your suggestions and help would be especially appreciated for this event.

The SA Group is now a member of the BioCITY Centre for Urban Habitats, giving members the opportunity to access and work in partnership with ecologists, botanists, zoologists and other scientists from the Centre based at the University of Adelaide. Other members include the Adelaide Zoo, Museum and Botanic Gardens.

We need you as members to support the above events if they are to be successful. I am asking you to give your support to make the Institute relevant in the design world in South Australia.

-And a warning for everyone. Theres a nasty virus (W32/Gibe-F, Sven) being circulated at the moment that appears to come from Microsoft offering an attached upgrade. The email is very persistent and may reappear after you delete it from your inbox. DO NOT run the attachment.
Microsoft do not distribute security patches by email - you have to download them from the website.
(Our office has been receiving 3-5 versions of this virus per day for the last week, in addition to staff's home accounts) To find out more about this virus check out the SOPHOS AntiVirus info

Make sure you have a current antivirus program - its easy to let it lapse but all it takes is one virus and you will regret it.

Water Week Symposium
AILA SA

The AILA SA Group has been asked if it would like to put up a display at the Water Week Symposium being held on Friday 24th October. The aim of the display is to raise awareness of the Institute and increase recognition within the community.
Given the nature of the symposium we felt that some display boards that show water sensitive design in landscape architecture would be appropriate, such as low water use landscapes or wetland design. We envisage being able to use these boards at other events in the future.

If you or your company would like to ‘donate’ a project to use on the display boards please send digital images, brief text (30-50 words only please) and digital company logo to Greg Cater (greg.cater@halliburton.com) before the 1st of October (sorry for the short notice).
The boards will be on display on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th October on the Botanic Gardens Museum lawns. We would greatly appreciate your contributions.
