Langwarrin Flora and Fauna Reserve is well noted and respected for its natural and
biological heritage value. The site is less well known for its cultural significance based
on the history of the sites use as a military reserve from the mid 1800s until late
last century. In undertaking the Victorian Heritage Register Langwarrin Flora and Fauna
Reserve Joanne, Penny and Hamish demonstrated considerable skill in their investigation of
heritage significance in the face of almost complete absence of any physical remnants of
the past use of the site. In this respect the students are to be congratulated for their
hard work in uncovering the extensive history of the site through the conduct of primary
research using a range of investigational techniques.
The students also displayed a high level of competency relative to the preparation of
an application for the site to be considered for heritage listing based on relevant state
and national assessment criteria.
The historic information that was uncovered
documented and evaluated by the project team will provide the community with valuable
information for making the history of the site come to life. It will also assist heritage
bodies in their pursuit of further understanding and protecting this important
historic site.
Joanne, Penny, and Hamish are to be commended for their
efforts and fine work
