Jury Comments

Carl’s work demonstrates a very good combination of skills and design knowledge. Yet, what is outstanding about this recent graduate is that his boss stated that “Carl’s contribution has changed the direction of our office” – WOW!

A master plan was developed for the broader site. This determined vehicle circulation (bus and car parking) creating pick up drop off to the school entry and positioning of sculptural artworks.      This cross section addresses site levels, and how the different layers of planting create various spaces     Photo of existing site conditions to use as a comparison to the photomontage.      The design intention is to create an open, flowing space, aesthetically as the new visual entry landscape to Taroona and functionally as an extended play space that provides pick up and drop off.

Concept plan for the RTBG Bicentennial Rose Garden. The plan was developed from various layers of design principles and brief requirements. The plan creates a range of rose garden experiences and provides for events, interpretation and education, architectural structures, artwork, water and play. A simple design structure of the twisted grid, but with complex patterns and layers of information. The twisted grid provides a range of journeys and extended view lines through the garden.     This section moves through layers of roses to an open space containing a large scale pergola and water feature, framed by an existing evergreen back drop     This section looks at the integration of roses and functional spaces. An elevated pavilion and marquee overlooking the rose garden.
