A confidently handled
minimalist scheme. The orthogonal scheme rigorously complements and is
seamless with the new house.
The external courtyard deals with overlooking issues and the tight
space with hedges, the borrowed landscape and the outdoor pavilion. In
particular the jury admired the internal courtyards with a sympathetic
union of landscape, sculpture and the water features. The design
considers the varied views of these courtyards, offering respite and
light within the house. Although dominated by hardscape the restrained
planting palette, prioritises planting texture and form over colour.
The jury was
impressed by the projects ability to extend this genre of residential
work with careful composition, beautiful and careful detailing and
sculptural and textural use of plant material.
