LITTLE MALOP STREET REDEVELOPMENT
GEELONG

Landscape Architect:
Taylor Cullity Lethlean,

Client:
City of Greater Geelong

Jury Comments

A welcome addition to the fabric of Geelong, transforming the tired old mall with rigor and richness. Custom designed and constructed linear benches cut across this longitudinal space creating distinct zones for quite seating, with movements zones differentiated subtly with special devices and ground plane texture changes. The jury appreciated the integrated approach to the sculptural light towers, drainage and water feature which follows the longitudinal setout.

Night time character has not been forgotten with careful lighting transforming this one undesirable night time location. While the introduction of some traffic has added some liveliness and activity, the balance is still in the pedestrians favour. While embracing the new “look” already established for Geelong this beautifully detailed urban plaza also has its own sophisticated identity.
