This project
uses a refreshingly original approach to the design of a landscape
amongst heritage listed modernist school buildings.Taking cues from the spatial geometry of the
grounds and the colours and forms of the buildings’ fenestration, the
design is a contemporary solution which complements the existing
heritage.The striking diagonal layout of
the circulation and associated spaces provides a vibrant juxtaposition
with the rectilinear building geometry at the same time recognising
desire lines through the site.Colours of
hard and soft landscape materials have been selected to relate to the
colours on the building façade.
The outdoor refectory
with its long aluminium dining table beneath the elms provides a
delightful and flexible area for socialising and outdoor classes.Subtle boundary definition is skilfully used to
knit the school grounds into the surrounding parkland. The landscape is
a fitting contribution to the continuum of quality design in the
development of the site.
