Jury Comments

This landscape is a timeless and elegant setting for the heritage listed Mansion Hotel, formerly St Joseph Seminary. The existing landscape was carefully analysed and reused to create attractive views and vistas and reinforce the landscape character of open lawns and clumped mixed plantings.

Infrastructure such as car parking and road works have been kept as discrete as possible through their location away from the building and the selection of softly coloured crushed rock as the surface material.

The beautifully designed linear water feature clearly separates the heritage building from its contemporary extension at the same time protecting the foundations of the old building. Using a restrained palette of materials, it creates a strong and very elegant landscape element.

The landscape is a gracious addition to the complex, clearly reinforcing its heritage values.
