TRACT MONOGRAPH - Tract Consultants Pty Ltd

The Tract monograph is an important landmark in documenting the development of the profession of landscape architecture in Victoria and Australia. The establishment, growth and work of Tract Consultants has been an important influence over the past thirty years. This publication documents numerous built and unbuilt projects and comprehensively illustrates the maturity, influence and potential of a young profession.

This award recognises the importance of such a document in promoting the broader profession and as an educational tool. By presenting the total scope and body of work of a single practice, over a significant period time, the monograph becomes an important reference for the practice of landscape architecture.

                   


AILA Victoria Award for Excellence in Planning

WATERFRONT CITY, MELBOURNE DOCKLANDS - HASSELL Pty Ltd & BDP London

Waterfront City is one of the largest urban renewal projects to be undertaken in Victoria. Hassell's complex and detailed plan exhibited a responsiveness to both site and user amenity ... and to its Melbourne context and the focus on human scale, permeability and connectivity.

NATIONAL EMERGENCY SERVICES MEMORIAL, CANBERRA - Aspect Melbourne Pty Ltd

...captures the spirit of the emergency services by evoking catastrophic events via a bold emergence from the surrounding landscape...a successful collaboration with artist Charles Anderson, lighting designers, and the construction team.

THE ROAD-AS-SHRINE - Sue-Anne Ware, RMIT University

This project explored the qualities of memory and the spontaneous, ephemeral memorial in relation to highway fatalities.. the project articulated messages of safe driving practice and environmentally responsible landscape design, and ... challenged notions of traditional memorials, permanence, and landscape appreciation, in its search for 'the new memorial'..

CITY OF MELBOURNE PEDESTRIAN AND TRAFFIC STUDY - Coomes Consulting Group Pty Ltd

This study advises on practical measures to improve pedestrian amenity, safety and linkages in key parts of the Melbourne CBD ... impressively researched and analysed.

MOONEE PONDS URBAN DESIGN FRAMEWORK -
Hassell Pty Ltd & Moonee Valley City Council

With an objective to set a clear direction for the development of the Moonee Ponds Activity Centre the project focused on forging links between different areas and on the integration of 'non-physical elements' into the physical design of places and spaces.

...a bold initiative with significant urban renewal and social revitalisation potential. Its long-term vision and its flexibility as a planning and negotiation tool were particularly noted.

KAMESBURGH GARDEN PLAN -
Jill Orr-Young

...acknowledged as a model for heritage conservation planning and the depth and breadth of knowledge produced during the planning process provides a new understanding of the culture of the nineteenth century pleasure garden in Melbourne.

...a meticulously researched document which provides detailed historic insight and future directions for a heritage resource.

MOONAH LINKS - Tract Consultants Pty Ltd

The undulating “cups” country set within a coastal Moonah woodland and a “dune” topography offered the potential for a world-class championship golf course which would eventually stage the 2003 Australian Open.

... undertaken with environmental and aesthetic sensitivity.

KEAST PARK MASTER PLAN - Site Office

A 2.5 hectare park located within a strip of remnant bushland on the Seaford foreshore where the designers sought to develop a bold vision for the park which gave people the opportunity to imagine the potential of the space.

... a well-articulated plan which was communicated in a graphically engaging manner.

PORT PHILLIP ECO CENTRE & ST KILDA BOTANICAL GARDENS NORTH WEST FRAMEWORK - Martin Reeves in association with Landarche, Peter Ho in association with Phooey, Aspect and the City of Port Phillip

Representing the collaborative efforts of a combined group of concerned and proactive community organisations, landscape architects, architects and council the landscape of the EcoHouse plays a major role in facilitating the demonstration of ESD and WSUD principles and techniques, whilst integrating the EcoHouse into the historical context of the St Kilda Botanical Gardens.
