Award for Design in Landscape Architecture
Special Commendation for Art in
the Landscape
helmet
Landscape Architect: Cassandra Chilton + Tanya Court
Client: Manningham City Council
In
helmet, Cassandra Chilton + Tanya Court have instilled a dynamic
visual gateway between Melbourne’s northern and eastern suburbs through
the design of a unique piece of Landscape Art.
The piece is
integrated into the grounds of the Heide Museum of Modern Art, serving as
art and landscape. The work suits the context of the site and reads well
from all angles and at all distances. Drawing on Sidney Nolan’s iconic
Kelly Series, which was painted at Heide, Cassandra Chilton + Tanya Court
have created a local icon out of a national icon.
helmet
is a piece of art that literally reaches out of the landscape to
incorporate light, location, site context and icon into a unique piece of
landscape art that is able to stand on its own or as a modern piece of the
Kelly mythology.
