MARIBYRNONG RIVER MASTER PLAN
Landscape Architect: Site Office Landscape Architecture and Storm_Consulting
Client: Moonee Valley City Council

The Maribyrnong River Master Plan sets a strategic vision for the Maribyrnong River and surrounding environs.

It seeks to improve the social connections to the waterway as well as physical improvements to the health and ecology of the river. The project highlights the importance of considering water sensitive design as part of strategic planning and design. The project features a multidiscipline approach where the landscape architect worked in association with engineering specialists, Storm consulting.

The master plan integrates various Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) initiatives across the site, including a range of water harvesting and cleaning options filtering ground water runoff, roof top water, storm events and base flows from existing drains through rain gardens before being reintroduced to the river. Grey water from surrounding buildings proposed within the master plan is to be filtrated and used as irrigation for the surrounding park lands and sporting ovals.

The implementation of the master plan will see an integrated approach to water quality improvements.
