Corkery Consulting: Memory Park, Hazelbrook, NSW

Located at Hazelbrook in the Blue Mountains, Memory Park forms a valuable component of the Great Western Highway upgrade that is being carried out by Roads and Maritime Services.

The Park provides an engaging new public space in which substantial level changes are addressed by an integrated system of ramps, stairs and retaining walls. A new pedestrian bridge over the highway provides safe and convenient access between Hazelbrook village centre and the railway station. Corkery Consulting was pleased to design the restoration of Memory Park as part of the Highway upgrade between Woodford and Hazelbrook. The restored Park has been enthusiastically welcomed by the local community. Existing mature trees were retained and supplemented with extensive new planting that reflects the cultural landscape associated with villages in the Blue Mountains. A new memorial site commemorates local soldiers who died in war. A feature of the urban design process was the level of coordination with URS in relation to engineering design and multiple services.
