The revival of light rail in Sydney presents an extraordinary opportunity to transform the city’s public domain. Spanning over 12-kilometres from Randwick and Kingsford to Central Station and Circular Quay, the $2.1 billion Sydney CBD and South East Light Rail project is designed to address congestion, improve public transport reliability, and transform George Street into a world-class shared pedestrian boulevard featuring Australia’s first wire-free system.
HASSELL (and Arup) in partnership with Transport for NSW, delivered the Reference Design that will guide the sensitive integration of the new light rail infrastructure within Sydney’s diverse and distinctive urban environment, creating a high-quality and people-friendly public domain, and a transport system befitting the city’s global status.
