Winning Design of the New Western Sydney Stadium

ASPECT Studios, along with team partners Lendlease and Populous, has won the bid to design and deliver a new $300 million stadium precinct to replace Pirtek Stadium in the western Sydney suburb of Parramatta.

Located on a sweeping bend of the Parramatta River on the western edge of the CBD, the 30,000-seat Pirtek Stadium is home to local rugby league team the Parramatta Eels, as well as the A-League team the Western Sydney Wanderers, the Greater Sydney Rams and the NSW Surge, and is set to become a new city landmark within a picturesque World Heritage setting.

The design of the public realm, led by ASPECT Studios, integrates the stadium facility within the surrounding city and parklands through a series of connecting pedestrian and cycle paths, new planting and a range of complementary outdoor event spaces.

An active urban park located along O’Connell Street will form the heart of the public experience and will re-energise the western edge of the CBD. The park’s terraced design will provide a dynamic setting for multiple uses and activities, including giant slides, sporting facilities and water play. The park will also form a new meeting place to encourage everyday engagement for all walks of life and has the capacity to transform into an event space during game days at the stadium.
