About the Webinar

Lighting seems like a relatively simple component of a landscape design, but the more you learn about it the more confusing and complex it becomes. In today’s world where time is precious, what are the most critical factors to focus on for a good lighting solution?

Viewers of our webinar will learn:
• A quick description of some of the many lighting technical terms, and more importantly, how important they are to Landscape Architects.
• Colour Temperature – what these numbers mean and why it matters.
• The impacts of lighting on our environment.
• Materials used in good quality exterior lighting products.
• LEDs – why everyone is using them and are there any downsides?
• Glare – the difference between discomfort and disability glare, and how its measured.
• Contrast and Uniformity and why they are so important.
• What a Lighting Designer or Engineer normally look at on a design.
• The challenges of exterior in Australia.
• Where to use various types of lighting.
• How to plan for a good Lighting Design.

Presenter: Tom Stevens       



After graduating as an Electrical Engineer Tom practiced as an Electrical Building Services Engineer for 3 years before completing a Master of Design Science in Illumination Design and practicing as a Lighting Designer for the next 5 years. Tom has worked on a wide range of projects, including Bath Abbey, York Minster, the V&A London, and Stargroves (a country mansion once owned by Mick Jagger). Tom has been working with Light Culture for 3 years, and is now the National Sales and Marketing Manager.
