Specifying Timber & Coatings and Designing & Selecting for Outdoors

AILA’s new Landscape Technical CPD sessions provides a forum for presentation and exhibition of industry information in an educational and inspiring format. The sessions offer landscape architects the opportunity to learn about the latest trends and research from Australia’s leading suppliers in one jam-packed session.

Presentation 1: Outdoor Timbers – Material durability and a new approach to installing decking and screening

In this session we’ll explore and discuss the durability of timber, timbers qualified for BAL 29 including the recent recognition for Jarrah and Karri, and the use of adhesives to fix decking and screening in under half the time of a traditional top fixed system.

Presenter: Tim Sherry – Product and Supply Manager, Auswest Timbers.

Presentation 2: Specifying timber finishes for exterior applications
Timber is an extremely popular substrate but to maintain its attractive appearance, most timbers need to be coated.  There are a wide range of coatings available, this presentation is designed to give you more confidence to specify the right coating by explaining the benefits of coating timber, what to consider when choosing a coating and coating longevity and maintenance.

PresenterDouglas Curr National Technical Sales and Specification Manager, Cabots

Presentation 3: Designing and Selecting Outdoor Exercise Solutions for People of all Ages

Children and the youth have different needs and expectations for physically active outdoor spaces and the same applies to working age adults and our more senior citizens. Demographics are changing and so are our children’s waistlines; but are our design considerations? Learn about the wide variety of options available today for public spaces that promote physical activity.

Key learning outcomes:

  • to describe the main differences in design of traditional adults’ exercise equipment and that of seniors’
  • to describe considerations for maximisation of exercise park patronage
  • to explain how to cater for a wide range of demographics
