The 2020 CPD program will kick off with the annual Parks Forum.

This year's breakfast event will focus on the History and Archaeology of Public Open Space. Speakers will explore the evolution of parks through the ages from ancient cities through to the future of parks.

Speakers and topics:
'Use of Communal Space in the Ancient World' - Emily Smith, Insights Coordinator
Emily Smith works as an insights coordinator. She is passionate about understanding the connections between people and place in their historical context. Emily draws on her unique perspective to ensure people remain at the forefront of building services design.

'Evolution or Revolution? The Form and Function of Parks from the 19th Century to Now'- Dr Chris Boulton, The CityGreen Lab
Dr Chris Boulton is a practicing academic - the founding principal of The CityGreen Lab, an Adjunct Research Fellow with Griffith University's Cities Research Institute, and a sessional academic teaching environmental planning. Having extensive professional experience in municipal urban greenspace management, Chris has qualifications in criminology and landscape architecture. An honorary Fellow of Australia’s Institute of Landscape Architects and awarded an Endeavour Research Fellowship in 2018, Chris is now publishing her international research findings to support a better approach to providing urban greenspace. Collaborating with others, Chris is also examining the role of green infrastructure in climate change resilience and adaptation. 

'Future Park Archaeology – Biophyllia or Pleasure Garden on Steroids?' Shaun Walsh, AILA National President, CEO City Parklands (Southbank and Roma Street Parkland)
 Shaun has a professional background in Town Planning, Environmental Management and Landscape Architecture with various roles in local, state and federal government and well as a design manager in a private practice. He studied Landscape Architecture as a post graduate at a later age and has established his landscape architecture career at a management level. Shaun is also a Director of Oxley Creek Transformation.

All speakers will then join a panel to answer and discuss questions from the audience.
