Shortlist announced: NGV’s 2016 Architecture Comission
The National Galleryof Victoria (NGV) has announced the shortlisted practices in the Australia-wide competition to design the 2016 Architecture Commission.
From 93 entries, the jury has selected five practices that will now proceed to stage two of the competition. Read more.

Time for a new Minister for Cities
Malcolm Turnbull should move quickly to appoint a new Minister for Cities to replace Jamie Briggs if he is serious about his claim to want to champion the productivity, sustainability and livability of the nation’s cities.
The Prime Minister should also place the new minister within the infrastructure and regional development portfolio, rather than the environment portfolio. Read more.

My Park Rules finalists announced
Hidden tree top cubbies, wetlands, lizard dens, bug hotels and forest swings have each been recognised by the My Park Rules competition for capturing the imagination of school communities all over Australia. From almost 100 entries from kindergartens, day care centres, primary and high schools, which gathered more than 30,000 votes, the judges have decided on a list of eight project finalists that promote better green space in schools all over the country. Living Cities rallies to size opportunity in greening our cities
There’s momentum building around greener cities, with representatives from more than 50 groups across the built environment sector this week descending on Parliament House to meet with all three major political parties and hold the Living Cities Workshop.
The event was organised by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects in partnership with Engineers Australia. AILA president Daniel Bennett said the fact his chief executive Shanana McKenzie could bring so many people together in under 20 days showed how strong support was for greener, more sustainable and better planned urban environments. AILA: Infrastructure Australia has forgotten Green infrastructure
The recently released 15-year plan by Infrastructure Australia has failed to adequately address green infrastructure integration, the Australian Institute for Landscape Architects has said.
AILA chief executive Shahana McKenzie said the plan failed to act on its vision of taking a “strategic and ambitious approach to infrastructure”, and failed to “embrace the value green infrastructure brings to more sustainable, healthy and resilience cities”. Read more.

The Australian infrastructure plan calls for user-pays roads, higher density
Responses to the report have been mixed, with positive reactions from organizations such as the Green Building Council of Australia and the Property Council of Australia, and some criticism from the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) for neglecting green infrastructure.
AILA CEO Shahana McKenzie pointed out that only one recommendation in the report directly references active and healthy living and there are no direct references to green infrastructure. Read more.

A revamp of Naracoorte’s Market Square skate park is a step closer to happening after a public consultation session with community members.Around 10 keen skaters and BMX riders attended Wednesday’s meeting, along with a number of Councillors and community representatives.The session was run by Melbourne-based architecture firm Convic,the world’s most awarded skate park design and construction company.
