HASSELL has announced John Williams from RMIT University as the winner of the 2016 HASSELL Travelling Scholarship – Robin Edmond Award. John was selected following interviews with 18 students, nominated by the seven participating universities around Australia. His outstanding research project called 'The Space In-Between' took a multi-scalar approach to the reintegration of post-industrial sites, using phytoremediation strategies as a framework for urban land rehabilitation that supports greater accessibility, diversity and resilience. The new facility will have more than triple the floor space of the existing Civic Theatre. It is part of a $76 million redevelopment project that also includes the transformation of the adjacent Munro Martin Park.
