National President's Message - 11 May 2015

AILA membership continues to grow with AILA currently having 2,300 members. This was one of the updates National Council received at a teleconference last week. The following are some of the key resolutions from the Council meeting.

  • The AILA Accreditation Standards and Procedures Policy was adopted which is the culmination of an extensive consultation period with members and academics. This document outlines new processes for accreditation and review of AILA accredited courses. Special thanks to the members of the National Accreditation Framework Working Group, chaired by Assoc Prof Linda Corkery, for the energy that have contributed to the development of this terrific new policy.

  • The timelines for National Council elections were confirmed with nominations opening on 1 July and the new National Council adopted at the AILA AGM at the 2015 Festival of Landscape Architecture: This Public Life. More details will be made available closer to the date.

  • The 2015/16 AILA budget was adopted. The budget covers national and chapter operations with the budget process an important part of prudent financial management of AILA resources. In the coming financial year the states and territories will receive a higher proportion of membership and partnership revenue to provide more resources for chapter activities.

With the budget for the next financial year being adopted, it is timely to thank our incredible corporate partner community whose support enables AILA to achieve more. Over the last year AILA partnerships have been defined and so far the feedback from members and partners has been extremely positive. We are fortunate to have such high quality supporters, including Principal Corporate Partner Lappset Australia, Major Corporate Partners Austral Bricks & Austral Masonry as well as our Supporting Corporate Partners who have all shared commitment to promoting the creation of high quality places and spaces.
