The Living Cities Alliance 5 point plan released

Green infrastructure is a critical component of making better cities, addressing the issues facing our society including continued economic growth, healthier cities and greener cities. AILA has released a 5 point plan for the Living City Alliance, and you can download a copy of the plan here.
The alliance of partners gathered for the workshop (who have formed the Living Cities Alliance) provided input into what has been framed as a National Five Point Living Infrastructure Plan.
Can we all become NIMBYs? I hope so, and just for a few days in October later this year… The 2016 Festival of Landscape Architecture – NOT in my backyard – is gathering significant momentum, curated and driven by Creative Director Richard Weller. The website is now live, and sub curators also announced. It really is an exciting line up and I encourage you all to consider planning your trip to Canberra in October to be part of our 50th celebrations at the Festival. Click here to check it out.
Australia’s Best Playground competition recognizes and celebrates well designed public playspaces, and the landscape architects who are committed to designing and creating a better Australia. AILA members are invited to submit finished playspace projects here.
I’m pleased to report the University of Adelaide received official renewal of their accreditation for 5 years. This follows on from QUT’s accreditation renewal which occurred last month. Both Unis were visited in November last year by a National Accreditation Visiting Review Team, consisting of 2 Academics, 2 Practitioners and 1 student, all being AILA members and all having dedicated a good 2 days and 2 nights + additional time to the visit.
The new accreditation framework is working well and is managed by AILA staff & overseen by the National Education Committee, and driven by the policy adopted by National Council in 2015. We have 3 more visits scheduled this year.
Congratulations to the University of Adelaide, with special mention to George Zillante and Tanya Court for producing effective documentation and a thorough program for our team whilst visiting the University.
