Directors Message - 01 March 2021

Chris Tidswell, AILA National Director

Dear AILA Members,

What a start to the year it has been – February has come and gone and summer is officially over! Welcome to March.

Joe Biden is the new US President and has plans to re-enter the Paris climate accord, coronavirus has not been as prevalent within the Australian community and the COVID-19 Vaccine is starting to be administered (30,000 as of the day I write this)– all things are looking great for Australians and especially the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects.

Below are a couple of updates from AILA:

AILA Strategic Plan

All AILA Members have been notified that we have been revising our Strategic Plan as required because of the current business climate and previous edition of the Strategic Plan and its Objectives.

Strategic planning is a very important process in which the organisation determines its vision for the future as well as identify the ‘Key Objectives and Results’ for the organisation, ensuring they are accountable and measurable.

The National AILA Board, AILA Operational Staff and now State Chapter Presidents along with their Executives have been involved with great excitement providing detailed feedback.

A Mission & Vision, Values and Five Strategic Pillars have been developed. The next step is to endorse an organisational Operational and Communication Plans to help successful implementation of the Key Objectives and Results.

Following the AILA March board meeting a series of online forums will be held to share this revised version with Members. Member will also have the opportunity to ask questions of Board and the CEO. These will be advertised via the newsletter and social media. If you haven't done so already, feel free to follow AILA National via LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook for the latest updates.

Calls for EOI | National Connection to Country Committee

Festival of Landscape Architecture, Spectacle and Collapse, October 2021

The Festival of Landscape Architecture: Spectacle and Collapse is due to be held in October 2021. Given the festivals location in Perth and the current uncertainty around domestic travel and events we would really appreciate feedback from the AILA Members on the approach.
Please see the link below to the survey:

The next AILA Board Meeting is occurring in Hobart, Tasmania on the 19th of March. It will be the first face to face board meeting since February 2020 in Brisbane. As you can imagine, we have a very full agenda, very much looking forward to tackling some key strategic issues.

Following on from our Board meeting this month, we will provide you with an update.

Wishing you all the best.
